“Random Kindness Monday!” Hid Starbucks Gift Cards in Books in Chapters :)

I wanted to be a little more creative this week. So instead of just buying Starbucks gift cards and leaving them at the till I decided to have some fun ;P

I wrote a little message saying “You ARE loved” or “You ARE Beautiful” with the gift cards, and hid them in women’s weight loss and dieting books :)

The reason was because I feel like women especially are barraged with the message that they aren’t good enough.
That they need to be more beautiful…
That they need to be skinnier…

Its indirectly and directly shown so many times on tv, magazines, everywhere..

And what really gets me is how they “create this void of fulfilment” by the media and then COINCIDENTALLY have 1000′s of diet plan books, “get thin” magazines, every single facial product you could imagine, and thousands of other “solutions” to this void..

Think about it.

They’re CREATING a problem –> making a women feel poor about herself, so they can now sell her a “solution” to make massive amounts of money…

Its BULLSHIT.

So I decided to do something about it :)
Because I hate the idea that so many women are being taken advantage of like that.

So I bought 15 5$ gift certificates, wrote an encouraging messaging about being loved and being beautiful, put them in dieting and weight loss books and KICKED THAT NEGATIVITY IN THE FACE :D aha.

So tell me what you did this monday for *Random Kindness Mondays*! :)

Your picture really made me smile. That “I got away with something fun !” look on your face is great! You’re a lovely young man. I do hope you did not have to sacrifice your own nutrition to do this sweet good deed. Now for Tuesday (or maybe Wednesday?) I randomly assign you to take an even bigger chance and do some little something for someone you actually know. Those folks are the scariest—–Granny.

You ROCK!! You made ME feel better about myself with your blog. Just knowing that there is ONE person out there that thinks like you, that lives as you do, makes my heart happy. You are a beautiful soul. Thank you for sharing the idea!

Hi Thomas, I have to say I have been reading your posts and they are great. Those women who get the gift cards will love it! Being kind can be free (although not necessarily if you buy £15 cards :) and it makes such a difference to people. I came across a girl once who told me she always takes the free papers handed out at the train station ‘to lighten the load’ of the man who gives them out, I loved that. Thanks for your inspiring blog and thanks for liking some of my posts too (StopandSmelltheRoses). TheLittleThings AKA Amber x

Yeah! Sometimes its the actions that we do that use our time rather than money that actually be more meaningful, because in the end we can always make more money. But we can never get back our time. So to spend your time with someone is MUCH more valuable and precious than your money :)
Thanks for the comment though! :D

Awe thanks! Yeah, its when the giving of your time thats the most valuable because we can always get more money but we can never go back and get more time. So to give that away says a lot! Thanks for sharing that! And no problem aha :)

I’ve reblogged this simply because I found the idea so interesting and the attitude so uplifting. Thank you for visiting my site and following my blog (my progress, really). If everyone would practice simple acts such as this, there would be no need for books like mine…but I’d be fine with that. In the meantime maybe your example and my writing will help others to accept the challenge of living graciously (and reaping accordingly). Thanks!

Dearest Tom! A beautiful post that recognizes the challenge women and girls have to face consciously and subconsciously by such companies ads and the media that support the ads–both benefiting financially from the problem they create and the solution they propose. Very inspirational way to recognize this issue for women, and then DO something, such as putting the Starbucks $5 cards in weight loss books randomly at Chapters. You and your page are definitely the style that I follow. Thank you for liking my post, Self-care for the Busy Mind, on my blog, Graceful Learning, http://www.gracefulearning.com Blessings & Warmly, Lori

Oooooo, I LOVE this. Will probably riff on your generous and thoughtful idea-thanks for the inspiration. I’ve been revving up the kindness practice myself, but my standby is baking and delivering cookies to folks–firefighters, neighbors, shelters. Thanks also for the like. Looking forward to following your adventures. Rock on.

Awesome, brilliant, amazing. You are truly an inspired person. I love the idea of the gift cards but you took it to whole new level and it blew my mind. Thanks for visiting my blog or I may never have found your site, which would be a crying shame as this webspace has incredible content. :-)

You MUST be a saint! 15 is a big number when multiplied by $5! lol I’d probably cry if I ever ran across a message like you wrote. I’ve never thought of doing a random act of kindness but now you’ve got me thinking… God Bless you Simple Tom!!!!

You are amazing! I’ve been writing a daily blog, called “The Year of Living Non-Judgmentally” and one of the things I’ve been focusing on is kindness. I’m so glad you found my blog and therefore allowed me to find you — and the kindness you put out into the world. Thank you. — Ann
