“Random Kindness Monday!” Hid Starbucks Gift Cards in Books in Chapters :)

I wanted to be a little more creative this week. So instead of just buying Starbucks gift cards and leaving them at the till I decided to have some fun ;P
I wrote a little message saying “You ARE loved” or “You ARE Beautiful” with the gift cards, and hid them in women’s weight loss and dieting books
The reason was because I feel like women especially are barraged with the message that they aren’t good enough.
That they need to be more beautiful…
That they need to be skinnier…
Its indirectly and directly shown so many times on tv, magazines, everywhere..
And what really gets me is how they “create this void of fulfilment” by the media and then COINCIDENTALLY have 1000′s of diet plan books, “get thin” magazines, every single facial product you could imagine, and thousands of other “solutions” to this void..
Think about it.
They’re CREATING a problem –> making a women feel poor about herself, so they can now sell her a “solution” to make massive amounts of money…
Its BULLSHIT.
So I decided to do something about it
Because I hate the idea that so many women are being taken advantage of like that.
So I bought 15 5$ gift certificates, wrote an encouraging messaging about being loved and being beautiful, put them in dieting and weight loss books and KICKED THAT NEGATIVITY IN THE FACE
aha.
So tell me what you did this monday for *Random Kindness Mondays*!

Thanks so much for the support!
Your picture really made me smile. That “I got away with something fun !” look on your face is great! You’re a lovely young man. I do hope you did not have to sacrifice your own nutrition to do this sweet good deed. Now for Tuesday (or maybe Wednesday?) I randomly assign you to take an even bigger chance and do some little something for someone you actually know. Those folks are the scariest—–Granny.
haha Just bein sneaky
But I accept the assignment!
This is one of the sweetest things I have ever seen. Such a cute and thoughtful idea. This would without a doubt make someone’s day.
Well thx!
You are amazing for doing something like that! Keep shining your light!
Thanks so much!
What a compassionate, kind and sensitive action to take. Completely selfless ~ expecting nothing in return. You’re a hero !
aha I’m no hero. I’m just tryin to make a difference

Thanks!
I am following your example – what a GREAT way to share the LOVE. Hmmmm now what shall I do…….
haha tell me when you do somethin
Hi Thomas, I have to say I have been reading your posts and they are great. Those women who get the gift cards will love it! Being kind can be free (although not necessarily if you buy £15 cards
and it makes such a difference to people. I came across a girl once who told me she always takes the free papers handed out at the train station ‘to lighten the load’ of the man who gives them out, I loved that. Thanks for your inspiring blog and thanks for liking some of my posts too (StopandSmelltheRoses). TheLittleThings AKA Amber x
Yeah! Sometimes its the actions that we do that use our time rather than money that actually be more meaningful, because in the end we can always make more money. But we can never get back our time. So to spend your time with someone is MUCH more valuable and precious than your money
Thanks for the comment though!
Awe thanks! Yeah, its when the giving of your time thats the most valuable because we can always get more money but we can never go back and get more time. So to give that away says a lot! Thanks for sharing that! And no problem aha
the sweetest thing ever
awe thanks!
Fantastic! Good for you!
Thank you!

Just doin what I can! :p
I’ve reblogged this simply because I found the idea so interesting and the attitude so uplifting. Thank you for visiting my site and following my blog (my progress, really). If everyone would practice simple acts such as this, there would be no need for books like mine…but I’d be fine with that. In the meantime maybe your example and my writing will help others to accept the challenge of living graciously (and reaping accordingly). Thanks!
Thanks for that Joss! Yeah sometimes its the simplest things we do that make such a strong impact in the world
Thanks for the support Joss!! That means a lot to me
Its amazing that sometimes its the simplest actions that have such a profound effect on peoples lives.

Sweet beyond measure!

Dearest Tom! A beautiful post that recognizes the challenge women and girls have to face consciously and subconsciously by such companies ads and the media that support the ads–both benefiting financially from the problem they create and the solution they propose. Very inspirational way to recognize this issue for women, and then DO something, such as putting the Starbucks $5 cards in weight loss books randomly at Chapters. You and your page are definitely the style that I follow. Thank you for liking my post, Self-care for the Busy Mind, on my blog, Graceful Learning, http://www.gracefulearning.com Blessings & Warmly, Lori
Thanks so much Lori! I really appreciate it
I like your blog a lot too!
Thanks Tom! Feel free to follow anytime. Take care, Lori
Will do!
I absolutely LOVE this idea! I am going to start thinking of something to do for next Monday…. Thank you for the inspiration!

Very nicely done, lad. Thanks for making the ladies feel special. Also, kudos on the gift – Starbucks is amazing.
Hah thanks! :p
And yes, Starbucks is definitely wonderful
I hope many more people take your cue and do random kindness things. I’ll try to but I don’t have the money for that many gift cards…I’ll think of somethin crafty, though
yeah just be creative!
Hahaha…this is a funny, creative, and proactive random act of kindness. I can imagine how it feels to open a “get thinner” book and find a message, “You are beautiful”.
Haha, yeah it would be awesome to see their reactions :p
Oooooo, I LOVE this. Will probably riff on your generous and thoughtful idea-thanks for the inspiration. I’ve been revving up the kindness practice myself, but my standby is baking and delivering cookies to folks–firefighters, neighbors, shelters. Thanks also for the like. Looking forward to following your adventures. Rock on.
Oh that’s awesome! That’s such a good idea!!
Love it!
Thank you!
how wonderful to see such beautiful actions…I love this!..you are a light in the darkness…keep shining!
awe! That means so much to me
Awesome, brilliant, amazing. You are truly an inspired person. I love the idea of the gift cards but you took it to whole new level and it blew my mind. Thanks for visiting my blog or I may never have found your site, which would be a crying shame as this webspace has incredible content.
I just tried to be a little creative
But thank you so much!! You just put a huge smile on my face
Thank YOU for being a beautiful human being!
You MUST be a saint! 15 is a big number when multiplied by $5! lol I’d probably cry if I ever ran across a message like you wrote. I’ve never thought of doing a random act of kindness but now you’ve got me thinking… God Bless you Simple Tom!!!!
Haha but in the grand scheme of things it’s not a lot compared to the effect it can have on people
Do it! :p
This is really cool! I hope everyone tries it
Me too!
You, sir, are awesome! Thanks for liking my blog–hope you take some time to see some of my earlier posts which reiterate what you said here (though your way of expressing it is much cooler!) I love your blog and am a follower now! Thanks for sharing your light with the world!
